Internship College: Advantageous and Enlightening
Most students while in college have gotten by at the bare minimum, just scraping the bottom of their full potential and scrimping by on what little work they can do.
While this may be enough to get a degree, provided the student pass with acceptable grades, when faced with job recruiters, interviewers or employers, students may not live up to their expectations.
Taking a proactive mindset into preparing oneself for the rigors of the interview process and their first real job in the real world is a proactive step many college students fail to take, but should.
With so much to gain from an internship college, students do not take advantage of these opportunities enough. Some students complain that they cannot find a good internship that fits their schedule. Well, they are not looking hard enough.
Internships are everywhere, in the form of unpaid internships or even part time jobs that allow the student to take on a good deal of responsibility. Most who take on these exciting opportunities end up delighting in the amount of knowledge and real world experience they gain from their internship.
This knowledge and experience almost always translates into good interviews and a competent first few months on the job, where many recent graduates struggle.
No matter which internship college the student selects, it is probably a good bet that they will be dealing with some aspect of business. Whether it is finance, management of people, office management, organization, etc., any experience in the business field will prove advantageous to the student.
The entire world runs on business, no matter which field the student ultimately enters. Science requires grants and financing to fund research projects. The music industry has become a huge financial market where even musicians are forced to partake in the business aspect of it.
Again, no matter which field is chosen by the student, it is inevitable that they will run into some form of business. Having a background that includes an internship college in the business field or something that requires the intern to learn business skills will be very beneficial.
The internship college a student chooses may also be very enlightening in regards to the future career choice they select. They may be very involved in a certain college major, but once they find an internship that places them in the middle of the practical application of the major, they will realize what a mistake it would be to continue along that path.
That is why getting some experience in the real world will help the student greatly. They will be able to get a taste, even if it is a small sample, of the field they plan to enter in the future and they may even be able to earn some extra money. Some internships allow their interns to make their own schedules, put together their own teams and manage their own finances.
Many contracting companies do this, thus giving the student the opportunity to get extensive experience in the business aspect of the world and management their own team. This allows the student to learn finances, management and good teamwork, all of which will prove helpful as they embark on their career.
