What is the Best Way to Propose?

For many of us there will be at least one day in our life when we get to ask that special someone for their hand in marriage. The question is how to do it?

I think the most important thing is that it needs to be memorable and don't ask at a sporting event I have asked many women this and they say it's incredibly tacky. Memorable in a way that makes the ladies go ahh. Here is what I did, I am not saying this is the be all end all way to do it but it certainly did get the ladies saying ahh.

First off the ring is important and the size of it isn't, buy not just what you can afford buy what you deem to be reasonable. In our case I had $15,000 budget, when I look back I can't believe I spent that much but hey it was for all of the right reasons.

The ring wasn't just an expensive piece with large diamonds it meant something. First off you probably have a diamond wholesaler in your city, find this person and become friends with them. As expensive as this ring was it would have been at least double at a shopping mall jeweler.

Here is why the ring was special, I had it custom designed and despite what you're thinking this didn't cost that much more. The ring had three stones on it the middle stone was the important one at 1.24 carats. I specifically wanted a stone of this size as it represented to me that she will always be my #1 24 hours a day. This sort of attention to detail is what made this a special event.

The second most important aspect was the location. Well I chose a fairly off beat and exotic local and that was the beaches of Tel Aviv Israel. I guess the first question is why would a North American with no Jewish or Arabic background be in Israel. The truth is I had family living there working for one of the local tech companies and they had asked us to visit. I figured you don't get too many opportunities to had local tour guides of the holy city so why not.

Back to the proposal, Tel Aviv happens to have one of the nicest beaches on the planet with the added bonus of facing due West. This means perfect sun sets every night of the year.

I had it timed just right we went down to the beach just before dinner with a bottle of wine and two beach chairs. We talked for a bit and when no one was around and the sun was just right I got down on one knee. I am a traditionalist and not only did I get down on one knee I also asked her father for his daughters hand in marriage.

The good news was she said yes, although it took a while to get the yes as she was quite shocked with the unexpected proposal.

In my opinion the location needs to be memorable and the ring needs to have some significance. If you take of these details and of course are madly in love with him or her you'll be off to a great start.
